Where are you from or where do you live around here?

I was raised in Mt. Solon and now live in Mt. Crawford.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I work at Green Valley Auctions with my husband Sam and we have 2 doggies, Ellie Mae and Dulcie. We have been married for 2.5 years. We enjoy hiking, going to auctions, thrifting, and finding the best local places to eat. If you need a good Taco Truck recommendation, we have a few ;)

What got you started at Rocktown CrossFit?

One morning I was headed home from a typical workout at Planet Fitness when I was scrolling Facebook and saw an add for a 6 week program at Rocktown. I had in previous conversations told my husband (who was doing CrossFit at the time) that I wouldn't be caught dead doing CrossFit. For some odd reason, I went home that day and told him that I was thinking about checking into it and he highly encouraged me to do so. I reached out via the Facebook Ad and the rest is history. What was just a 6 week and I’m out thing has turned into a “Hey Lauren, make sure you renew my membership please.”

When or what was your "CrossFit Moment" - the moment that you really felt pushed or felt like you really accomplished something?

Oh, there's been so many moments. I remember this one workout on a Saturday that I RX'd the cleans and I remember leaving and being like, holy cow I just moved a really heavy barbell for a really long time.

What are your goals for CrossFit? Why do you do CrossFit?

My main goal is going to be to continue to show up to the Rock even when the days are long and tough and I don't feel like it. 2021 really showed me that showing up even when I wasn't all there still proved to give me progress and I ended 2021 with finally hitting a Squat Clean goal of 125lbs. It took me a whole year to get there and at times I thought I didn't have it in me but showing up and just getting the work done regardless of feelings 100% brought me to that accomplishment. (Also a lot of PT with Joel and help from every single coach along the way!) I also am going to bump that former goal and work to hit a 135lb squat clean this year. I do CrossFit because honestly, it has been the one form of movement that has proven its benefits to me. Mentally and physically I am not the same since joining the Rock and I never want to stop chasing that change.

What do you think is special about Rocktown CrossFit?

The community of the Rock is intoxicating. I didn't just join a gym, I joined a family, a group of people who all show up to the same place with different backgrounds, different views and different goals but we all show up for one thing - to workout together. I would never give that up for all the money in the world. These people notice when I am not there, they know my goals and they push me to accomplish them.

What are your favorite movements to do in a workout? What are your least favorite? Why?

I love Squat Cleans and Power Cleans mainly because I spent a year with Joel drilling them. I am hesitant to write my least favorite because I know what this means but I guess I will be honest and say wall balls. They just really aren't that fun and they hurt.

Free write - whatever you feel like you want to share.

I can’t thank Rocktown CrossFit enough for the space they’ve created for their athletes. I’m not sure that I would have had the same CrossFit experience if I had joined another box. My only regret is that I didn’t start my CrossFit journey sooner. The Rock is home and I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of it. If you’ve been thinking about something, I encourage you to take the leap of faith and do whatever it is that scares the heck out of you.

Sierra walked into our doors right before we were shut down for quarantine in 2020. Without even knowing us, she trusted us with her fitness every morning on Zoom from her home gym. She was consistent through quarantine, and as as soon as we were open in June, she became a consistent staple at the 5:30am class. During those 11 weeks, it would have been easy to quit or nix a routine she had just started-but she didn’t. She hasn’t looked back since.

Sierra is known to make an evening appearance once a week to get in the extra reps in personal training with Joel. She’s always striving to better herself, and while she may be quiet, we see her. Sierra, thanks for trusting us 2 years ago, and being a staple of the team ever since!
