Where are you from or where do you live around here?

Moved to Rockingham County from Northern Virginia about 33 years ago.

Tell us a little about yourself:

My husband David and I have been married 31 years and have two children Seth and Faith. We raise cattle on our farm outside of Elkton. I am a Culinary Arts Teaching Assistant at MTC. In my "spare time" I go to Rocktown, cook and bake, and help on the farm.

What got you started at Rocktown CrossFit?

Kristen Roach (Scrub) is a big reason why I started Rocktown. We worked together and she encouraged me to come. I told her that I was too old and that there was no way I would be able to keep up and would probably die during a workout. She was very adamant and kept stressing how no matter age or fitness level there was a place for me at Rocktown. When I walked into my first class I realized I knew a couple of people. One of those people was Lisa Hensley and we have been gym partners ever since. I am so thankful that Scrub kept talking and encouraging me which she still continues to do.

When or what was your "CrossFit Moment" - the moment that you really felt pushed or felt like you really accomplished something?

My most memorable CrossFit moment is when I reached the top of the hill for the second time. The first time I thought maybe I just got lucky, but the second time I reached it felt amazing.

What are your goals for CrossFit?

My goals are to improve weight lifting by learning and practicing correct moves in the Barbell Bettys Class. Coach Joel helped us so much in the first class and I am really looking forward to taking the second class. CrossFit has helped me feel stronger, improve my health, and has given me the confidence to try other things.

What do you think is special about Rocktown CrossFit?

Rocktown CrossFit is special to me because everyone from Nate and Lauren to all of the Coaches to all of the members care about each other both inside and outside of the gym. They cheer you on to finish a workout, encourage you on a run as they pass, text you to check in, celebrate your accomplishments and are there for you when you fall short.

What are your favorite/least favorite movements to do in a workout?

My favorite movements are the Farmers Carry, Deadlifts, Planks, and jump rope. Burpees are my least favorite. Why??? Cause they are burpees.

Free write - whatever you feel like you want to share.

Scrub got me through the door, Lauren and Joel worked with me through Peak (sorry for all of the tears and whining) and helped me realize that CrossFit was possible, and having the best gym partner to continually push, and support me daily has all added to my love of CrossFit and more importantly my love of Rocktown CrossFit.

Where are you from or where do you live around here?

I live in Elkton with my husband Ken and our 4 fur kids, Pete, Gigi, Abby and Penni,  all rescues from local shelters.

Tell us a little about yourself:

I have been a Realtor since 1996 with Funkhouser Real Estate Group and when Im not showing property I keep the books for my son-in-laws company.   In my free time I love to quilt and you will usually find me in on the weekends in my downstairs quilting studio making beautiful quilts.  I believe strongly in giving back to my community so I volunteer when needed but my passion is helping homeless animals.

What got you started at Rocktown CrossFit?

I joined Rocktown in 2019 after noticing that most of my friends my age were starting to have age related health issues. I didn’t want that for myself or my family so I decided to do something about it.

When or what was your "CrossFit Moment" - the moment that you really felt pushed or felt like you really accomplished something?

I have CrossFit moments almost every time I come in the door. I am always super proud every time I can finish a workout, increase a weight, Sign up for tomorrow without looking at what the next workout will be.

What are your goals for CrossFit?

I set small goals for myself in CrossFit. The first was of course the dreaded hill. I made it to the top without stopping a few months ago. Im still not a fan of the hill so if anyone would like to eliminate it from future workouts I would be okay with it. I love it when I can increase my weights, run a mile without stopping, My goals is to always try and do better than I did yesterday.

What do you think is special about Rocktown CrossFit?

I love the Rocktown Gym, I love the people, I love the welcoming atmosphere. I come for the exercise, I stay because of the wonderful group of people that I get to share my goals and victories with every week. And a special shout out to my partner Tammy - who always encourages me to continue, even when I think I can’t possibly do anything more.

What are your favorite/least favorite movements to do in a workout?

I love doing most anything with weights. Push press, cleans and deadlifts are my faves. I really hate burpees, box jump overs, and of course, running up the “hill.”

Tammy and Lisa joined The Rock at different times, but quickly connected  and have been a duo as strong as peanut butter and jelly ever since. These ladies are staples in the 6:30am class and known to set up shop in the very back corner…even if it’s a quiet class.

These ladies always make their hour at The Rock fun and filled with laughter. They continually push each other and are always striving to make themselves better. These ladies work hard side by side and don’t give themselves near as much credit for their strength and stamina as they should. They might not see it in themselves, but WE do.

Lisa and Tammy also have a kindness in them that shines both in and out of the gym and extends into everything they do in their lives.

We are blessed to have this duo as part of our team! Stay sassy and sweet ladies!
